When Good Roots Grow Deep

The other night, my radio mysteriously turned on, all by itself, at 1:00 in the morning. I heard a man sharing a message that changed my life.  And I have felt that I need to share this with you here.  I pray it will touch your heart and linger with you until you find the Truth, the Divine Love Note that is yours to find in it!

“Last year, there was a wet spell. It made all of the weeds flourish! A wife was out working in the yard when her husband decided to help her. He grabbed a trowel and started digging out a weed. She stopped him, said, “Wait! Stop! What are you doing?” He was stunned. How do you get in trouble for pulling up weeds?

His wife put her hand on his arm and explained:

“If you pull that weed, 10 seeds will fall from it and plant themselves all over our yard. When you pull the weeds, you actually feed them! The only way to get rid of them is to aerate the land and fertilize the grass. As the grass grows, it will grow deeper roots, and the roots will crowd out the weeds, make it impossible for them to grow! They won’t get water, they won’t get sunlight! The grass will just get stronger and stronger! The only way to get rid of the weeds is to strengthen the grass, give it deeper, stronger roots than the weeds have!”

Consider this for a moment in the context of focusing on our strengths vs. our weaknesses.

Focusing on your weaknesses is like trying to pull up weeds. The weakness flourishes in the attention, magnifies and grows.  Simultaneously, the strength gets crowded out and stops being a strength. OR – if you will – you take away energy from the strength and move that energy to the weakness, which inherently means the strength isn’t getting stronger while the weakness is!
HOWEVER, if you focus on nourishing the strength, developing the talent, enforcing the good in your life and your world and relationships, that good will grow deeper, stronger roots! That good will blossom and grow more good; on its own, it will push out your weakness faster than you can do by focusing on them!

There are so many applications for this!  Focusing on light; focusing on faith; focusing on gratitude; focusing on your talents; focusing on your blessings; focusing on the good you accomplished; focusing on God’s view of you; focusing on your Divine Purpose and Mission; focusing on the individual gifts and talents your children possess and bring to your world; focusing on the gifts and talents and uniqueness your spouse brings to your family and world; focusing on the GOOD in other people, on the GOOD things they do and feel and create.

The “E” in B.R.A.V.E. is that we are ENOUGH!  Our dear friend Kallie was inspired to remind me of that a month ago when I was DROWNING in WEEDS!  She reminded me that just by BEING, we are ENOUGH; and in that ENOUGH, we are POWER!

But this analogy taught me that BEING is not enough when life has taught you to “be” with weeds!  Being is not the power until you are “Being” in your STRENGTH.  Nourishing the GOOD is the power! Nourishing the GOOD is fulfilling the measure of your creation!  Nourishing the GOOD is what is going to make your life great beyond comprehension! Nourishing the GOOD is what teaches you what God sees and why it is so NOBLE and POWERFUL and VALUABLE to His perfect world. Nourishing the GOOD is what shows you that YOU are EVERYTHING you need to be in the context of GOOD in your life, family, relationships, roles, world!

Don’t waste your  time, energy, soul, strength, or anything on the WEEDS!  Don’t spend your entire life focused on your or other people’s weakness.  Don’t waste your life focused on finding or expelling weakness in this world!  Weakness only begets more weakness.  Strength multiplies exponentially to infinity and beyond.  Strength defies math and logic.  Strength transcends difference, pain, fear, hate, worry, sin.  Strength takes you beyond ENOUGH to Divine Greatness and POWER!  Strength comes from nourishing the Greatness and letting the weeds disappear on their own!

Nourish your grass.  God is working with you to grow those roots very, very, very deep! In fact, He is invested in it more than you know.  He is working on it while you sleep.  Believe it and embrace it, then give thanks for it every single day!  I promise you that your life will never be the same!
