We are so happy Whitney has joined Smitten By with her expertise in Health and her passion for Home Decor’! Wait til you see the creative juices brewing from her!
Motherhood has always been a dream of mine, and now that I have arrived, I endeavor to find a little joy in every day. My 2 year-old daughter, Monroe, is my little gal pal, full of sweetness and spunk. I’m lucky to have a wonderful partner in my husband, Jeff. He helps keep me grounded and happy, while working the crazy schedule of a CPA. I love to learn and am always seeking knowledge. I graduated in Health and Promotion from the University of Utah, and have a great passion for health and wellness. I also am a bit obsessed with home design and decor, which is mostly fueled by blogging and Pinterest. For me happiness is about balance, and I’m always striving to seek just the right formula.
1. What is one of your favorite quotes?
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
-Marianne Williamson
This quote always helps me remember who I am and what I’m supposed to be doing in this life. It inspires me every single time I read it, and every time a different sentence sticks out at me.
2. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
So I love cleaning, I’m not even kidding. I really do. I look forward to having a slow day so I can just clean my house. But I absolutely despise every aspect of laundry. I hate folding it, and I hate putting it away. And I only have 1 child! I know its just going to get worse as my family grows. I need to find a way to make peace with it I guess…
3. If you had to work on only one project for the next year, what would it be?
I would love to be able to create a wonderful back yard for my family. Right now we have grass and a fence and some dog poop, but it would be so great to have a place for my daughter to play, and a patio to eat on and some trees and flowers…ahh I can see it now. Maybe one day.
4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
Music is such a huge part of my life. If only I could sing! A few of the songs that come to mind are, “You Are My Sunshine”, “You Have Stolen My Heart”-Dashboard Confessional, “Once In A Lifetime”-Talking Heads.
5. What was one of the best parties you’ve ever been to?
You are asking the wrong person that question! I’m so not a party girl. Most of the parties I have been to included funeral potatoes and some kind of fruity drink (no alcohol included). But if I had to pick, I would say my wedding reception. Sure, I didn’t get to enjoy the food or much dancing, but I was on cloud nine. One of the best days of my life.
6. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Luckily I have never been faced with a really horrific decision in my life. And I am grateful for that. This may be somewhat personal, but if I am being 100% honest the hardest thing I have ever done was recover from an eating disorder. Just like recovery from any addiction, it was an uphill battle. And one I am glad to say I am winning and have been for years now. But after experiencing true despair and deep sadness, I feel it has made me a more grateful and positive person.
7. The best part of waking up is?
Knowing that I’m doing exactly what I have wanted to do all my life, be a wife and mother. I love it. Its not always easy, and some days I would like to send in my resignation letter, but its wonderful and I’m grateful to be doing it.
