Hi, my name is Kelly and I write Dixie Dollar Deals, a website on how to save on dining, entertainment and all kinds of local deals in Utah’s Dixie! I love to save BIG anyway that I can, whatever I am shopping for. Today I’m excited to tell you about all the ways that YOU can save BIG when shopping at Target!
Now, we all love Target for so many reasons, right?! The cute clothes, darling shoes, unique home décor items, the dollar section in the front of the store, and the smell of delicious popcorn the minute you walk in the store…need I go on? But do you think of Target as a great place to save money? It can be, if you shop the right way.
Below is a list of my 10 favorite ways to save money when shopping at Target:
1. Target coupons - Target releases both store and manufacturer coupons on their website. They have coupons for food items, baby items, even clothing and shoes. Target allows you to stack coupons, which means you can use one manufacturer coupon with one Target store coupon on the same item to save big! Target releases new coupons frequently on their website, so you will want to check it often to see what is new. You can also find Target store coupons occasionally in the Sunday newspaper coupon inserts or on coupons.com. However, Target coupons in the newspaper are regional and not everyone will get one, depending on where you live. Make sure you understand Target’s coupon policy before using coupons in the store.
2. Sign up for mobile coupons! Mobile coupons are Target store coupons sent to your smart phone. These coupons can also be stacked with manufacturer coupons for big savings. When coupons are released, you will receive a text alert on your phone with a link to the coupons. There is one barcode for several coupons given. At checkout, hold up your phone to the cashier to scan and the coupon amount will be deducted from items purchased. Sign up here for mobile coupons. Once you sign up, you will get text alerts automatically when Target releases new coupons. After you begin receiving the text alert, reply back with code BABY4 and you will also receive baby specific Target store mobile coupons (or just text the code to 827438)! Target will also send you a text message as a reminder when the coupons are about to expire. Target mobile coupons are one of my favorite ways to save at Target!
3. Target REDcard - An easy way to save at Target without using coupons is to use the Target REDcard. You have three REDcard options: a debit card that deducts from your personal checking account, a Target credit card or a Target VISA credit card. The Target VISA credit card can be used wherever credit cards are accepted, whereas Target credit cards are only used at Target and at Target.com. Whenever you use your REDcard in the store or on Target.com, you save 5% off your total purchases, just like that – voila! Other benefits to the Target REDcard are free shipping on Target.com orders, pharmacy rewards to save up to 10% on a Target shopping trip, and Take Charge of Education reward where you can designate your child’s school to receive up to 1% of your REDcard purchases. You can make your purchases with your REDcard, then pay off the balance at the Customer Service desk (that’s what I do when I shop).
4. Gift card deals - Target offers gift card deals where you will receive a Target gift card at checkout when you purchase a specific item or a combination of items. Gift cards cannot be used in the same transaction that you purchased them, however, you can split your transactions and they can be used on the second transaction. If you do more than one gift card deal in a transaction, you will receive multiple gift cards! Usually gift card deals are advertised in the weekly Target ad and only available during the week of the ad, however some are unadvertised and last for several weeks at a time.
Below is an example of how I recently worked an unadvertised Target gift card deal:
Purchased flip flops on clearance for $.75
Purchased 3 packages of Stayfree pads at $2.89
Used 3 coupons for $2 off each package of pads
Paid $3.70
Received $5 Target gift card back for purchase of 3 Stayfree items
Made $1.30 to take 4 items out of the store!
5. Free Target app - Download the Target app on your smartphone and see the daily deals offered every day. You can also view the daily deals on the Target website. Daily deals feature items on discount, such as clothing, movies, toys, etc. You have to act quickly because items can and do sell out!
6. Target Shopkick coupons - Shopkick is a free phone app that provides rewards for shopping at specific stores. Rewards start when you walk into the store, scan certain items, or make a purchase (but no purchase is necessary to start receiving reward points called “kicks.”) You can receive Target coupons through Shopkick. View Shopkick information here.
8. Target’s Low Price Promise. Target will match ads! A lot of attention is given to Walmart for price matching competitor’s ads, but did you know that Target will price match too? As long as a price is advertised in a local competitor’s current ad, and you are purchasing the same identical item at Target, you can price match at Target. You do need to provide the ad in hand for price matching, and they will not accept competitor’s coupons. They will accept Target store and manufacturer coupons on items that you price match! View Target’s official price matching policy here.
9. Target mailers - Pay attention to those mailers you get from Target! They send baby item coupons, back to school item coupons, pharmacy coupons, Christmas season coupons, etc! Again, these are Target store coupons that can be paired with a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item.
10. Follow 2 websites to find all the amazing deals! Of course, I think you should follow Dixie Dollar Deals where I list all the amazing deals I find when I shop! I do not, however, list all the available Target deals out there. So I would recommend that you also follow Totally Target. This is a website that lists all advertised and unadvertised Target deals, and gives you scenarios on how to score great savings. Totally Target is not affiliated with Target, but they are a great resource if you want to keep on top of all the current Target offers.
That’s it – just 10 easy ways to save while shopping at Target! I hope you learned something new!
